The Update

THE DREAM CATCHERS — Netherlands Preliminary Production

Sterling Liam Media | Paid Freelance Opportunity

Location: Netherlands
Position: Documentary Interviewer (Off-Camera)
Engagement: Freelance / Project-Based
Project: THE DREAM CATCHERS
Production Stage: Preliminary Development & Talent Discovery

Can You Discover the Story Behind an Extraordinary Dream?

Some young people have a dream. Others are already making extraordinary sacrifices to achieve it.

Behind their ambitions are stories of determination, perseverance, family support and the challenges of pursuing excellence.

At Sterling Liam Media, we believe these stories deserve to be heard.

For our international documentary project THE DREAM CATCHERS, we are searching for an exceptional off-camera documentary interviewer to participate in our preliminary talent discovery and production activities across the Netherlands.

About THE DREAM CATCHERS

THE DREAM CATCHERS is an international documentary television project focused on extraordinary young talents aged 12–20.

From sports and motorsport to classical music, ballet, opera, performing arts and chess, the series explores the human journey behind exceptional ambitions.

Each episode is designed to reveal the young person’s everyday life, challenges, determination and the people supporting their development.

This is not a conventional talent competition. There are no artificial eliminations, manufactured rivalries or celebrity judges.

The young talent and their family are the heart of the story.

The Role

We are not searching for a conventional television presenter.

We need someone who understands that an extraordinary interview is not about asking the most questions. It is about asking the right question—and genuinely listening to the answer.

As our documentary interviewer, you will work behind the camera, creating natural conversations with young talents, parents, guardians and coaches.

Your responsibility is to help participants share their real experiences honestly, comfortably and in their own words.

Your Responsibilities

  • Conduct introductory interviews with selected young talents aged 12–20.
  • Explore their ambitions, daily commitments, experiences and personal development.
  • Interview parents, guardians and coaches when required.
  • Ask thoughtful, open-ended questions and natural follow-up questions.
  • Establish trust without pressuring participants into emotional disclosures.
  • Work closely with the production team to identify meaningful stories.
  • Maintain professional standards, confidentiality and appropriate child-safeguarding practices.
  • Help refine our interviewing approach during the preliminary Netherlands production phase.

Initial talent interviews are expected to last approximately 15 minutes. Additional work will be arranged separately as required.

Who We’re Looking For

We value personality and interviewing ability more than television credits.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Naturally curious about people and their personal experiences.
  • An excellent listener and thoughtful communicator.
  • Comfortable speaking with young people and adults from different backgrounds.
  • Emotionally intelligent, patient and respectful.
  • Able to ask meaningful questions without turning an interview into an interrogation.
  • Fluent in Dutch, with good working English.
  • Reliable, well-prepared and able to travel within the Netherlands for agreed assignments.
  • Willing to comply with production confidentiality, consent and child-safeguarding requirements.

Previous experience in documentary production, journalism, podcasting, radio or interviewing would be advantageous.

However, talented newcomers are strongly encouraged to apply.

We are interested in discovering exceptional people, not simply established media professionals.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

In THE DREAM CATCHERS, the interviewer is not the star.

The young person is.

You will not be expected to perform for the camera, manufacture emotional moments or create artificial drama.

Instead, your work will help reveal the authentic lives of extraordinary young people and their families.

Sometimes the most powerful interview question is followed by a long silence—and the patience to allow someone to find their own words.

That is the kind of interviewer we want.

Compensation and Engagement

This is a paid freelance, project-based position for the preliminary production phase in the Netherlands.

The professional fee, scope of work, filming locations, travel arrangements and engagement dates will be agreed with the selected candidate before work begins.

Potential involvement in later international production activities is not guaranteed and would be considered separately.

How to Apply

We would like to discover who you are and how you approach human storytelling.

Please prepare:

  1. A short personal introduction explaining why this opportunity interests you.
  2. Your CV or relevant professional background.
  3. Examples of previous interviewing work, if available.
  4. Your location and general availability within the Netherlands.
  5. Your proposed freelance rate.
  6. Send your application to: partnerwith@sterlingliam.com

Or apply online with our application form, including your CV and a YouTube link of yourself speaking about something you are passionate about: apply for the Behind-the-Camera Journalist role.

No previous television experience is required.

Applicants without professional interview samples are welcome to explain how they would approach interviewing a young person who is nervous or struggling to express themselves.

The Person We’re Searching For

WE ARE SEARCHING FOR SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO MAKE PEOPLE FEEL HEARD.
